What may be the biggest threat to come from such a long hiatus is the rapidly growing success of Sea of Thieves. Whatever pirate-hungry fans Ubisoft had garnered abandoned their hopes for the title. Ubisoft allowed excitement for Skull & Bones to fade away while Black Flag lost its relevancy in gaming. Assassin's Creed moved on in a new direction and Black Flag was left sinking deep in the ocean. ![]() Ubisoft garnered lots of excitement behind Skull & Bones because so many people fell in love with the unique sailing mechanics introduced in Black Flag.Īs year after year went by without a single word about Skull & Bones' development, that excitement quickly dissipated. When Skull & Bones was first announced, it was coming hot off the heels of Black Flag, which was not only considered to be one of the best pirate games at the time, but also one of the best Assassin’s Creed games ever produced.
